Welcome to Crooked Oak Public Schools. It is an honor to serve as your superintendent.
Crooked Oak has served this part of Oklahoma City since 1893. For more than a century, families have entrusted their children to this district, and I don't take that lightly. Crooked Oak has been my home since 2019. I came here as a math teacher and the boys' basketball coach. I went on to serve as principal of Crooked Oak Middle School and then as assistant superintendent before stepping into this role.
I've seen schools from nearly every seat. I was elected to the school board in my hometown, Elmore City-Pernell, while I was still finishing my degree at East Central University. I taught math and coached at Elmore City-Pernell and in Norman before coming to Crooked Oak. Those experiences taught me that good decisions must work for the people in the classroom, not just look good on paper.
The work I'm proudest of happened right here, and none of it was mine alone. At the middle school, our teachers came together as a professional learning community, used data to guide every decision, and took shared responsibility for every student. Together we earned the first "C" rating in the school's history on the Oklahoma State Report Card. As assistant superintendent, I worked with our teachers and principals to build a PreK–12 reading and math curriculum, so what students learn in one grade builds on what they learned the year before.
Our mission is to empower every student to embody PRIDE: Preparedness, Respectfulness, guided by Integrity, Drive, and Enthusiasm. We want every Crooked Oak student to be Prepared to Lead, Respectful in Action, grounded in Integrity, Driven to Succeed, and Enthusiastic Every Step of the Way. Our vision is a community where PRIDE-ful students lead, learn, and succeed, shaping a brighter future for all.
Families are our most important partners. A child does best when home and school work together, so I want you to know our teachers, visit our buildings, and be part of what happens here.
You can expect three things from me. I'll be visible in our schools. I'll tell you how things are going, good and bad. And I'll listen. If you have a question, an idea, or a concern, please call your child's school or reach me at the district office at (405) 677-5252.
I'm proud to be a Ruf-Nex, and I'm glad you're part of the Crooked Oak family.
Rooted in Excellence, Reaching for the Sky!
