Physical Restraint
PHYSICAL RESTRAINT OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES PURPOSE: To define the circumstances under which District personnel may use physical restraint for students with disabilities in compliance with SDE Guidelines for Minimizing the Use of Physical Restraint for Students with Disabilities in Oklahoma (“Physical Restraint Guidelines”). For purposes of this policy, the term “physical restraint” means any method of one or more persons limiting or restricting another person’s freedom of movement, physical activity, or normal access to that person’s body. It is a means for managing that person’s movement, reconstituting behavioral management and establishing and maintaining safety of the student, other students and staff. School personnel may use physical restraint for students with disabilities only under the emergency circumstances identified in the Physical Restraint Guidelines and only if the elements identified by the Physical Restraint Guidelines exist. The use of physical restraint for students with disabilities shall also be subject to any additional requirements identified in the District’s Special Education Procedures Manual.
Crooked Oak utilizes the MANDT System to equip staff with the skills necessary to effectively manage a potentially negative or even dangerous situation by first calming your emotional response and managing your own behavior so you can interact with other people positively. We do this by teaching principles, not techniques, in all our programs.
